Both exist in some capacity already, as mods… Skyblivion for example.Īs the gaming industry grows older, so does the age of the gamers. The same goals could be achieved for the franchise by a remake of Morrowind or Oblivion. I know it is still one of the most played games on Steam, thanks to the modding community, role playing capabilities and sheer volume of quests, but the fact that it is a meme in the first place suggests that the gaming community is suffering from some kind of “Skyrim sickness”.

Okay, now with that out of the way I may as well start with the mammoth in the room. I will however make my case as to why my idea of remaking Morrowind and/or Oblivion (in the same vein as the Mafia remake) would be better received and tick the same boxes as releasing Skyrim Anniversary Edition. As I said before, I am a big fan of The Elder Scrolls, and I will definitely be one of the many people who buys this game again for the 50th time. Skyrim is definitely in my top 3 favourite games, maybe even my number 1. I would argue, in fact, that this would have been a much better idea.īefore I proceed, I want to put in a disclaimer that no Skyrim hate is intended with this. While I understand the logic to this move, I can’t help but wonder if it couldn’t have been achieved and to greater effect (and side stepping the meme that is the re-releasing of Skyrim) by remastering/remaking The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind and/or The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. The re-release of Skyrim then, is obviously a way of trying to appease fans of the franchise, by scratching their The Elder Scrolls itch but also keep new people coming to the franchise. Still, fans of the franchise (myself included) are going to have to wait a few more years with Todd ‘Godd’ Howard and team firmly focused on Starfield, scheduled to release on Skyrim’s 11th anniversary 11th of November 2022. The Elder Scrolls 6 was announced to be in ‘pre-production’ at E3 2018 with a short CGI trailer that potentially teases location.
